Smart Leftovers Cooking: A Sustainable Approach to Meals

Smart Leftovers Cooking: A Sustainable Approach to Meals

Reducing food waste is not only good for your wallet, but also for the environment. One of the most effective ways to do this is by being creative with leftovers and transforming them into a delicious meal instead of just reheating them in the microwave. Here are some tips to help you turn your leftovers into a tasty meal.

1. Plan ahead

Good planning is the key to successful leftovers cooking. Before you start cooking, it helps to think about how you can use the leftovers from the meal. For example, if you plan to grill chicken for dinner, consider making extra chicken that you can use the next day in salads, wraps, or stir-fries.

Recipe: Grilled Chicken Salad Wraps

Ingredients:

  1. Leftover grilled chicken, sliced
  2. Mixed vegetables (e.g. lettuce, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper)
  3. Tortilla wraps
  4. Optional: hummus, guacamole, salsa or another sauce

Preparation:

1. Divide the sliced grilled chicken and mixed vegetables evenly over the wraps.

2. Optionally, add hummus, guacamole, salsa, or sauce for extra flavor.

3. Roll up the wraps tightly and place them in one of our Grills.

4. Grill the wrap until golden brown and then cut in half.

5. Serve immediately as a healthy and tasty lunch or light dinner.

2. Be creative

Let your creativity run free when it comes to coming up with new dishes with leftovers. Leftovers can be transformed into soups, casseroles, omelets, pizzas or even savory pies. Combine leftover vegetables, grains, and proteins with herbs and spices to create flavorful and varied dishes.

Recipe: Stuffed tomato with minced meat

Ingredients:

  1. 4 large tomatoes
  2. 1 clove garlic
  3. 1 shallot
  4. 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  5. 1 egg
  6. 500 grams mixed minced meat
  7. 4 tbsp grated cheese (Gruyère, Emmental)
  8. Salt and pepper to taste
  9. Olive oil

Preparation:

1. Preheat the SnackTastic to 160°C.

2. Beat the eggs with a splash of milk or cream, grated cheese, salt, and pepper.

3. Grease the baking dish and add the egg mixture and leftover vegetables.

4. Stir gently to distribute everything evenly and place the baking dish in the SnackTastic.

5. Bake the frittata for 25–30 minutes at 160 degrees.

6. Serve the frittata warm or at room temperature with a fresh salad on the side, if desired.

3. Use your freezer

The freezer is your best friend when it comes to storing leftovers for later use. Portion leftovers into individual servings and freeze them for quick and easy meals on busy days. Label and date the frozen items to avoid confusion and make sure to regularly check what is in your freezer so that nothing goes to waste.
