Leftover rice? Turn it into a savoury rice waffle!

Cooked a bit too much rice again... enough for a whole family when it was just for one? Sounds familiar! Leftover rice is a classic in the fridge – but luckily, it’s also incredibly versatile. With a little creativity (and your FRITEL WaffleTastic), you can turn it into something surprisingly delicious in no time.

Recipe: Savoury rice waffle with cheese & veggies

Perfect for lunch, as a snack or side dish – and ideal for using up leftover veggies too!

What do you need? (makes 2 to 3 waffles)

  • 250 g cooked (cooled) rice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 handfuls of grated cheese (e.g. Emmental or cheddar)
  • 1 small grated carrot or some finely chopped bell pepper
  • 1 spring onion or some chopped chives
  • Pepper, salt, and optionally curry or paprika powder
  • Optional: extra herbs like parsley or dried oregano

How to make it:

  1. Mix all ingredients together into a firm, sticky mixture.
  2. Preheat your FRITEL WaffleTastic and grease the plates lightly.
  3. Spoon some of the rice mixture into the waffle maker and close the lid.
  4. Bake the waffles for about 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve warm – great with leftover dip, hummus, or a fresh salad!

Variation ideas:

  • Add bits of ham, bacon or leftovers for a non-vegetarian twist.
  • Want an Asian flavour? Try soy sauce, spring onion and sesame oil.
  • Only have plain rice? Go sweet instead: add a little sugar, cinnamon and banana!
